Hello
I’m Jeroen
My story
By travelling around the world, taking master classes and meeting other musicians and saxophonist, I was influenced by different musical approaches. I played classical music with orchestra’s, chamber music ensembles, and improvised in folk, (free) jazz as well as in classical settings. In my own projects I like to look for surprising fusions between classical, pop/rock, jazz and folk music. One of my projects involved composer Jeroen D’hoe and pianist Bart Van Caenegem with whom I collaborated on a cross-over project for the 17th World Saxophone Congress in Strasbroug. My latest projects involve Núna Ensemble, a unique combination of saxophone and string quartet, and a soloproject with loopstation and live loops.
I am International Yanagisawa Artist, I play exclusively on Yanagisawa saxophones and promote KeyLeaves as an Official KeyLeaves Artist.

“If you like an instrument that sings, play the saxophone. At its best it’s like the human voice.”
Music education
During my training I have always praticipated in master classes and private lessons with renowned teachers from France, America, Japan, Spain and Scandinavia to further develop me as a musician. Next to becoming a better musician, after each experience I also became a better coach for my own students. I learned an awful lot about the way these educators teached.
In 2009 I took my first steps in music education and soon my passion for teaching grew. Since then, the urge to pass on my knowledge has only increased.
Music as a language
For me, music has a lot of parallels with language. You learn to speak as a child because you ‘play’ with professionals all the time. Your parents don’t give you a book of grammar and vocabulary after which you miraculously form your first words and phrases.
It’s incredibly important to learn to listen and feel what music, regardless of the genre, does to us in an intuitive way. Music experience is invaluable; I try to link it to the instrument as soon as possible.
